After playing with Xfce 4.10 for the desktop, it was a good time to give Cinnamon a play and see what is about. So on my netbook running Fedora 17 Beta I yummed Cinnamon from the repo and saw it in its full glory:
Very Apple like but totally useless. Sorry, I am redundant: very Apple like.
This is probably related to some API changes in the clutter toolkit embedded in Fedora 17 (as Cinnamon's windows manager relies on it). If Cinnamon was part of the official Fedora repository, this situation would be probably addressed faster.
if you have ati propietary drivers, whit this have some problems, cinnamons driver it not compatible whit fglrx http://forums.linuxmint.com/viewtopic.php?f=59&t=96892
Nicu, that's not a cinnamon message, that's a Fedora message. I got it when I upgraded from F15 to F16. Specifically it's a DM error message that doesn't even tell you what it is. Really annoying and hard to track down
I've seen that message in Fedora but, in more than 10 years of using Macs, I've never seen anything that clueless. Even if you totally mess things up and the kernel panics, you get a bit more than that.
that's exactly the repo from where i yummed it. it was around F16 beta and on the netbook, the computer i use only occasionally. maybe now after F17 it final, i can try an yum update
Very strange it works perfect on my F17 Beta, I installed yesterday (dvd install, Intel gfx)
ReplyDeletemine was F17 Beta RC installed from Xfce live and then yum updated

I do (pseudo) nightly Cinnamon builds. Would you like to try a slightly more recent Cinnamon version and see if it's been fixed?
ReplyDeleteare they yummable?
DeleteForgot to add. I'm not in Fedora 17 yet. There's a horrible preupgrade bug preventing me from enjoying it :-/
ReplyDeleteVery... Chrome-ish? Google-ish?
ReplyDeleteAny way, Cinnamon sucks :)
